Kira

I do not have time to read, but the books just keep getting stuck to my face. UF, HF, YA, fluffy romance, whatever. I love it all.

But I might judge you if you hand out five stars all willy nilly.

Twice Dead - Kalayna Price I was fortunate enough to get the first book in this series for free and devoured it in one day. I read the second book just as fast. In this series Kita is a shapeshifter who has left her homeland (dimension?) of Firth and been in hiding for the last five years, living on the streets and occasionally posing as a six-pound kitten so that old ladies and children will take her home and give her shelter for a bit. She has been accidentally turned into a vampire by Nathanial, who is crazy gorgeous, and in this second book we are along for the ride as she continues to adjust to being a vampire/shifter hybrid, struggling with the need for blood, the fact that she can't shift anymore and doesn't know if she ever will again, and that the vampire master of the city Tatius is trying to steal her from Nathanial to have as his "companion." Oh yeah, and there is a murderer loose and she may or may not have created rogue shifters by accidentally tagging them. This is a fantastic new urban fantasy series that is engrossing from page one. Kita is likeable, funny, and strong without being ridiculous. It reminded me of the Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson series in that there is definite sexual tension between her and Nathanial, but the author is going to string it out for a while and make the relationship progress slowly (two books and so far no sex, but I didn't miss it). Tatius throws a fun wrench in that wheel too. If you're a fan of urban fantasy, you won't be disappointed with this series.
