I have never read the original Dracula, so I don't have any idea how this one compares. As a standalone book, it just left me feeling empty and sort of "meh." beginning was great and sucked me in right away, but by about halfway through I lost interest and started skimming. I didn't care enough to find out how it ended. It was dark and sad, which I expected to some extent, but I didn't get from the story how this was about Dracula being in love. That must have been in the part I skipped. the writing was descriptive and the author is obviously talented, but too many plot points felt like they were thrown in to shock And titillate, and not necessarily because they contributed to the story. Just my opinion, and it might not be the books fault; this story just wasn't for me.
